Moving Forward: Paying the Living Wage

We're proud to announce that The Inside Trek is now an Accredited Employer with The Living Wage Foundation. Come and read why we've done that - and we're calling on all other businesses to do the same

When we said that, despite lockdown, we were going to keep moving forward and making ourselves an even more responsible business here at The Inside Trek, we meant it. So, following on from declaring a climate emergency and committing to Tourism Declares a couple of weeks ago, we’re now also proud to announce that The Inside Trek is now an Accredited Employer with The Living Wage Foundation. And one of only 28 in Northern Ireland currently.

Why have we done this?

At The Inside Trek we believe that the idea of securing someone’s help and assistance – whether that’s staff or regular contractors – without paying them enough to actually live off is frankly abhorrent. And yet that’s what only paying the national minimum wage – only paying what is legally required – does. The legal minimum doesn’t provide your staff with enough to live off. Just paying the legal minimum sends the people you rely on home without any security over how they’ll pay for their basic needs. And with that worry hanging over their heads, how can your people bring you the “best stuff” the next time they walk in your doors?

So we urge anyone who owns or runs a business go to the Living Wage Foundation and commit to a business model that properly recognises the value of everyone you rely on by paying the living wage. Because let’s face it, you don’t have a business without all of your people, at all levels of your organisation.

And that’s particularly case for our fellow businesses in Northern Ireland, because Northern Ireland really should have waayyy more Accredited Living Wage employers. I know some of our politicians seem to love trying to keep us in the Dark Ages, but that doesn’t mean we have to do likewise. So go sign up, will yous?
